STSM (Short term
scientific mission)
Ø Candidade Ph.D. student Keziban Hüner (Yildiz
Technical University, Turkey). STSM project title “Biophysical techniques for
the antimicrobial polymers” Short Term Scientific Mission (STSM) at University
of Moribor, Slovenia (Prof. Dr. Stefan Spirk, WG1), 01/10/2014-15/11/2014. Investigating the
antibacterial mechanism of the polymers by using AFM, XRD techniques. We are
planning to focus on biophysical techniques to visualize adsorption at surfaces
(e.g. protein adsorption) using QCM-D or SPR, as well as AFM. to understand structure-acivity
relationship.
Ø Candidade Ph.D. student N.
Ceren Süer (Yildiz Technical University, Turkey). STSM project title “Synthesis of
Phosphorous Containing Polymers and Investigation on Their Flammability“, Short
Term Scientific Mission (STSM) at IMDEA institute (Prof. Dr. De-Yi Wang lab,
WG3 member), One Month, Madrid/Spain, November 2016. The short term research
focuses on the using phosphorus containing reactive monomers in epoxy
formulation. Thermomechanical properties of these polymers such as DMA; TGA, microcalorimetry, LOI and UL94 analysis were done at the
research lab by prof. De-Yi Wang (IMDEA Materials Institute, Spain).
Ø Candidade Ph.D. student Gizem
Kahraman (Yildiz Technical University, Turkey). STSM project title “Synthesis of phospha-carborane containing polymer”, Short Term
Scientific Mission (STSM) at Leipzig University, Germany (Prof. Dr. Eva Hey
Hawkins, WG1 member), 3 months, between the period
20/06/2015-16/09/2015. In this project, phosphorus-carborane
containing polymers were synthesized by ROMP (Ring Opening Metathesis
Polymerization). Mechanical and thermal properties of these polymers were also
investigated. Hence, the dual flame retardancy effect
of boron and phosphonato group analyzed.
Ø Candidade Ph.D. student Gizem
Kahraman (Yildiz Technical University, Turkey). STSM project title “Synthesis of phospha-carborane containing polymers bearing well defined
architecture and investigating their stimuli responsive properties”, Short Term Scientific Mission (STSM) at Leipzig University,
Germany (Prof. Dr. Eva Hey Hawkins, WG1 member and Assoc. Prof. Marcus Gallei WG3 member), 3 months, between the period
15/October/2016-15/December/2016. The research presented in this project
focuses on the development of novel functional hybrid organic-inorganic
architectures containing chemically-tethered icosohedral
carboranes. The motivation behind this work was to
understand and overcome the challenges associated with the incorporation of
inorganic boron clusters into a variety of well-defined polymeric
architectures. This task was critical for the advancement of scientific
understanding, as well as the improvement and implementation of novel hybrid
materials towards technological applications. Monomer and polymer synthesis
will be studied in the Eva-Hey Hawkins research lab (Leipzig University,
Germany). After than morphological properties in solution ans
as well as in solid phase will be analyzed in the Prof. Marcus Gallei's research lab (Darmsdat
Technical University, Germany).
Ø Candidade Ph.D. student Gizem
Kahraman (Yildiz Technical University, Turkey). STSM project title ““Impact of carborane phosphorous containing additives on the
flammability of polyurethane” Short Term Scientific Mission (STSM) at IMDEA
Institute, Spain (Prof. Dr. De-Yi Wang, WG3 member), 3 months, between the period 01/February/2018-30/April/2018. In this study, new phospho-boron containing oligomers will be synthesized and
then will be used in polyurethane formulation. Mechanical and thermal
properties of the polymers will also be investigated. Flame retardant
properties of the synthesized polyurethanes will be tested by TGA, LOI and UL94
analysis. Hence, the dual flame retardancy effect of
boron and phosphorous group will be investigated.
